The Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets will face off against the Zimmerman Thunder at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cambridge-Isanti has 11 straight victories, Zimmerman has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cambridge-Isanti is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Coon Rapids get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Bluejackets, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brooke Molitor was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hailey Schmidt, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Cambridge-Isanti always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman lost 10-2 to Chisago Lakes Area on Tuesday.
Zimmerman saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madilyn Tucker, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that Tucker has hit this season.
Cambridge-Isanti's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Zimmerman, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Zimmerman's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Cambridge-Isanti has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Zimmerman, though, as they've been averaging only 2.4 strikeouts. Will Cambridge-Isanti keep running through batters, or will the Thunder buck the trend?
Everything went Cambridge-Isanti's way against Zimmerman in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Cambridge-Isanti made off with a 9-0 victory. Do the Bluejackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunder turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
