After soaring to 61 points the game before, the Wisner-Pilger Gators were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were outmatched by Pender on the road and fell 59-25. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wisner-Pilger has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Wisner-Pilger saw an underclassman step up: Emerson Bellar scored 13 points along with two steals. That was a full 52% of Wisner-Pilger's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Pender got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hadley Walsh out in front who scored 15 points along with two steals. Walsh hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Kyla Krusemark, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Wisner-Pilger now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Pender, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.
Wisner-Pilger's road trip will continue as they head out to face West Point-Beemer at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. West Point-Beemer will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Pender won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Glenwood at 10:25 a.m. on January 20th. Glenwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 101st in Iowa, while Pender is ranked tenth in Nebraska).
