Southern Maryland Christian Academy is headed into Tuesday's matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They came up short against Lanham Christian on Friday, falling 71-49. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Lions are ranked 31st).
Despite their defeat, Southern Maryland Christian Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Johnie Griffin Lll, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards, was perhaps the best of all. Griffin Lll has become a key player for Southern Maryland Christian Academy: the team is 13-5 when he posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Semaj Carter, who posted 12 points.
Meanwhile, King's Christian Academy came into Saturday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 74-66 victory over North Point on Saturday.
King's Christian Academy's win came from a few key players Southern Maryland Christian Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Earl B. Edmonds, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Elijah Burgess was another key player, going 8 for 18 en route to 22 points.
King's Christian Academy's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-16. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Southern Maryland Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64 points per game. However, it's not like King's Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
