The Basis Yeti have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Ash Fork 79-40 at home. The win was just what Basis needed coming off of a 64-34 defeat in their prior game.
It was another big night for Jack Engelthaler, who shot 7-for-15 from long range and dropped a double-double on 41 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Basis' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowdy McGourin, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Ash Fork's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabril Zeller, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Parnell Tsosie, who scored nine points.
Ash Fork struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Basis racked up 19 assists.
Basis' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Ash Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Basis will be playing at home against Red Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Red Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Ash Fork, they will head out on the road to face off against El Capitan/Centennial Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. El Capitan/Centennial Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
