3A Coastal recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Craven, who took down 105th ranked Washington, 20-14.
Derrell Scott of Havelock ran for the longest rushing play in 3A Coastal this season against Conley last week. Scott ran for 96 yards on the play and finished with 206 on the day as his team beat the Vikings.
Havelock's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Pharoh Cooper threw for 189 and one touchdown and Aron Rossi had 93 yards receiving. C J Lindsey helped Havelock's passing attack out by catching three balls for 64 yards.
Jim Bob Bryant's team's Cooper and Michael Bowman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cooper has thrown for 1373 yards this season, while Bowman, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 25 catches for 436 yards. West Carteret's Trevor Festerman leads the league in rushing yards with 898.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Pam-Pack take on the Rams. Washington is in fourth place, while Havelock is in first place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Freddy Sawyer's team takes on the Rams. The Pam-Pack have allowed 80 points this season, while Havelock has given up 93. Washington allowed 20 points last week as it fell to the Eagles.
West Craven moved up to 178 from 235 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Coastal. Matthew Riggsbee's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 20-14 win over the Pam-Pack.
