Von Steuben hasn't had much luck against Northside recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Von Steuben knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Northside likes a good challenge.
It was a proper cat-fight when Von Steuben challenged Chicago Academy on Monday. The Panthers never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. Considering the Panthers have won nine contests by more than 12 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Celia Quintana made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with six stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sophia Hernandez was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2025. Cindy Gutierrez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Von Steuben hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matchups.
Taft hit Northside with a five-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-0.
Northside's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Von Steuben, their record is now 9-1.
Northside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Von Steuben has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Northside, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Von Steuben's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Von Steuben might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Northside when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
