Clever is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Mt. Vernon is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Blue Jays will welcome the Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clever had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Southwest on Thursday. The Blue Jays never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Blue Jays haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Autumn Thrasher and Savannah Cheney did most of the damage at the plate: Thrasher went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Cheney went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was Thrasher's first of the season. Taylor Thompson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Clever always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon got the win against Strafford on Monday by a conclusive 11-1.
Mt. Vernon let Lilly Burk and Jocelyn Liss run wild. Burk went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Liss went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most hits Burk has posted over her last nine contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Rae Downing, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Clever, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clever hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Mt. Vernon struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clever couldn't quite get it done against Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 12-9. Will the Blue Jays have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
