University is 7-2 against Park Tudor since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Trailblazers will challenge the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
University is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter as they made off with a 19-2 win. The Trailblazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Jacob Shearer looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charlie Ranek was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Beckett Suh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Park Tudor). They had just enough and edged out Covenant Christian 15-14. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.
Desmond Francis was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Ai, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
The win (which was University's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Park Tudor, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
University was able to grind out a solid victory over Park Tudor in their previous matchup last Friday, winning 5-1. Will the Trailblazers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
