West Mecklenburg is 2-8 against Berry since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. West Mecklenburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
West Mecklenburg picked up another tournament win on Monday. They came out on top against Garinger by a score of 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hawks.
Allen German made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Jameel Tahir was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Anthony Echevarria, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
West Mecklenburg lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Berry made easy work of Jackson Day on Monday and carried off an 18-2 win.
The team relied heavily on Justin Williams, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Berry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't). Tyler Davis was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Berry pushed their record up to 7-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for West Mecklenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Mecklenburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 11.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Berry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
