Chamberlain is 0-4 against Canton since August of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chamberlain Cubs will look to defend their home field against the Canton C-Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
After only seven points in their last match, Chamberlain made sure to put some points up on the board against Milbank on Friday. Everything went Chamberlain's way against Milbank as Chamberlain made off with a 33-13 win.
Cruz Soulek had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 242 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Soulek was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Reuer, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, Canton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Custer, posting a 55-23 win on the road. Canton pushed the score to 55-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Custer cut but never quite recovered from.
Chamberlain's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-4. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Milbank, Vermillion, and Belle Fourche. Canton has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight games, giving them a 6-2 record.
Things could have been worse for Chamberlain, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 38-21 loss to Canton in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Chamberlain have more luck at home instead of on the road?
