The Middleton Vikings will challenge the Centennial Patriots on Tuesday. Middleton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Middleton made easy work of Meridian and carried off a 10-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.
Staton Aldrich made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Beau Buckner looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew Holman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Braxton Ostler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Centennial had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Timberline on Saturday.
Like Middleton, Centennial also got a great game from a two-way player: Matt Romero. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Romero was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
Romero wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Toby Fortin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Middleton's record is now 16-8. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 14-10.
Middleton came out on top in a nail-biter against Centennial in their previous meeting on April 9th, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
