The Atholton Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the St. Mary's Saints at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Atholton and five for St. Mary's dating back to last season.
Atholton fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Meade on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 77-74. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The losing side was boosted by Amir Shaheed, who went 6 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 3 assists. The matchup was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Deion Dent was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Even though they lost, Atholton were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's pushed their score all the way to 67 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of South River. That's two games in a row now that St. Mary's has lost by exactly eight points.
Atholton's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-4. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for St. Mary's, they have fallen quite a ways from their 24-8 record last season and are now at 0-4.
