The Flatirons Academy Bison had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to Byers for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-24 win on the road. With Flatirons Academy ahead 31-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Emma Cox had an outrageously good game as she scored 30 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Brylin Gomer was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Byers had strong showings from Anna Vetter, who scored 7 points along with 5 rebounds, and Allie Pelton, who scored 6 points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Byers struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Flatirons Academy racked up 17.
Flatirons Academy's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Byers, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Flatirons Academy will face off against Strasburg at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Strasburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Friday.
