Orem and Salem Hills are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Orem Tigers will be playing at home against the Salem Hills Skyhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Orem's tournament run continued when they took on Hillcrest on Saturday. Orem came out on top against Hillcrest by a score of 10-5.
Kiley Hoshnic was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Hoshnic was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Sadie Groneman and Andlie Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Groneman scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Allen scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Groneman also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne Wells, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Orem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, everything went Salem Hills' way against Emery on Saturday as Salem Hills made off with a 16-1 victory. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Skyhawks this season.
Camryn Guest was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Leila Stevenson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Orem has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Salem Hills' win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Orem hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Salem Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Orem suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Salem Hills in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Orem have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
