SPARTA, N.J. -
Sparta (N.J.) snapped the eight-game winning streak of River Dell (Oradell, N.J.), with a 40-0 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Matt Seville touchdown pass to
Lucas Faria in the first quarter, the Spartans were up 27-0 at the half.
Sparta expanded its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. SHS's lone score in the quarter came on a Seville touchdown pass to Faria.
With the win the Spartans extended their winning streak to seven games. Sparta defeated Ramapo 46-14 last week.
The Golden Hawks came in surrendering 16.4 points per game this season. River Dell had a hard time against Sparta's offense, which entered the game scoring 45.5 points per game. SHS had given up an average of 9.6 points prior to the contest.
A 36-15 Sparta victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for River Dell, which notched a 38-13 victory over Mahwah in its previous outing.
