The Maryvale Flyers will head out on the road to square off against the Cheektowaga Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Maryvale's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Maryvale after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 19-2 to Kenmore East.
Kaleah Greer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Cheektowaga made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pioneer on Thursday. The Chargers blew past the Panthers 12-5. Considering the Chargers have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey DuVal made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Daviana Anthony was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Maddison Belliotti was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
Cheektowaga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Cheektowaga's record is now 3-6. As for Maryvale, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1.
Maryvale came out on top in a nail-biter against Cheektowaga when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flyers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
