Baseball Game Preview: Salem Hills Skyhawks vs. Spanish Fork Dons

The Salem Hills Skyhawks will square off against the Spanish Fork Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Salem Hills is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-17 win over Timpview on Tuesday. The Skyhawks haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Kaleb DeGraffenried was a standout: he scored five runs while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Ward, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Salem Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fork came into Tuesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Wasatch on Tuesday by a score of 2-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dons have posted since March 19, 2024.

Spanish Fork's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nixon Warren, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. Xavier Amonett also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Salem Hills' win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Spanish Fork, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-11.

Salem Hills skirted past Spanish Fork 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Skyhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
