The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars entered their tilt with the North Broward Prep Eagles with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Somerset Academy - Canyons was the clear victor by a 55-31 margin over North Broward Prep. Given Somerset Academy - Canyons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while North Broward Prep is ranked 128th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alana Pinnock, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanna Fabrini, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was ysamar pimentel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pimentel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Ana Abelleira was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 14 rebounds.
Somerset Academy - Canyons pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for North Broward Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Somerset Academy - Canyons will be playing in front of their home fans against Westminster Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Broward Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Suncoast at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. Suncoast knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully North Broward Prep likes a good challenge.
