Two dominant players in Henry Robinson Jr. and JUSTIN GIST are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Matanzas Pirates will square off against the University Christian Christians at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Matanzas had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 78-69 win over University.
Matanzas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Robinson Jr. led the charge by dropping a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds. Robinson Jr. hasn't dropped below two blocks for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rya'sir Jefferson, who scored 29 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, University Christian had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against IMG Academy White by a score of 65-54 on Wednesday.
Matanzas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for University Christian, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-8.
Matanzas suffered a grim 53-32 defeat to University Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Can Matanzas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
