Basketball Recap: Trey Nevad and Connor Angstadt Secure Win for Merritt Island Christian

Merritt Island Christian waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They snuck past the Real Life Christian Academy Raptors with a 48-43 victory.

Leading Merritt Island Christian to victory were Connor Angstadt and Trey Nevad. Angstadt posted 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Nevad dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Nevad is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carter Stevenson, who put up five points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Merritt Island Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Real Life Christian Academy lost, don't look at Manny Almonte. Despite the final result, he earned eight points and 16 boards. Real Life Christian Academy is 5-2 when Almonte posts eight or more rebounds, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Sepulveda, who had 11 points.

Merritt Island Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Real Life Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Merritt Island Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-37 defeat against Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy on the 18th. As for Real Life Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-61 loss against Hampden DuBose Academy on the 18th.
