El Paso has gone 8-2 against Burges recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Tigers will host the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, El Paso turned things around against Jefferson on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Silver Foxes. Considering the Tigers have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Austin Slagel, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Noah Veith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
El Paso always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Burges made sure to put some runs up on the board against Andress on Friday. The Mustangs blew past the Eagles 14-1.
Victor Aguirre made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for Burges: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, Emmanuel Chavez was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Giovanny Leos, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
El Paso's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-8-1. As for Burges, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. El Paso has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Burges struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went El Paso's way against Burges when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as El Paso made off with a 12-2 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
