The Corona Panthers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Santiago, falling 55-6. Corona was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-6.
Ty Owens punched in a rushing score. Rocco Scialpi was his top target, picking up 84 receiving yards. On the ground, Judah Castillo rushed for 55 yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Santiago to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Kurtz, who rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown. Kurtz's longest rush was for an incredible 97 yards. Amari Reed did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Corona's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-6. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 1-9 Santiago and 4-6 Temecula Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.7% over those games). As for Santiago, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-9.
Corona does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Santiago also has no future games currently scheduled.
