Despite the defeat, Mater Dei had strong showings from Brandon Benjamin, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Blake Davidson, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Scotty Belnap, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, JSerra Catholic and Roosevelt (ranked 41 and 20 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile contest. JSerra Catholic fell 64-51 to Roosevelt on Friday. JSerra Catholic's defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Mater Dei's defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 26-3. As for JSerra Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 24-5.
