Basketball Recap: Colby Stephens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elysian Fields over Waskom

If Elysian Fields was feeling good fresh off their 85-25 takedown of Joaquin last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Elysian Fields Yellowjackets took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waskom Wildcats. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colby Stephens, who posted 17 points. The contest was Stephens' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Kennedy, who scored 16 points.

Elysian Fields has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points per game. As for Waskom, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-13.

When Elysian Fields and Waskom next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Elysian Fields will face off against Beckville and their seven-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Waskom will try to stop Tenaha's four-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
