Even though the Therrell Panthers scored an imposing 68 points on Saturday, the Clarke Central Gladiators still came out on top. Clarke Central managed a 74-68 victory over Therrell. Given Clarke Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Therrell is ranked 437th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Taylor, who scored 20 points along with six assists and five steals. Taylor scored a full 29.4% of Therrell's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Michael Woolridge, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Clarke Central's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Therrell, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
Clarke Central will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Loganville at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Therrell and Carver will face off at 5:00 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Carver has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 706 points over their last nine matchups.
