Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Cross). Everything went their way against the Lakeland Chiefs on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
AVA SCHMIDT was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CLAIRE HELRING, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. GRACE ROGERS was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only posted an OBP of .273.
