St. John Paul II hasn't had much luck against Florida State University High School recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will challenge the Seminoles at 6:00 p.m. Florida State University High School took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on St. John Paul II, who comes in off a win.
St. John Paul II will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating North Florida Christian, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. AMANDA THOMPSON made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
THOMPSON wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was SHAVON STEWART, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Florida State University High School was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Lincoln. Seminoles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Trojans since on Tuesday.
Like St. John Paul II, Florida State University High School also got a great game from a two-way player: Shyla Wiley. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Wiley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Florida State University High School's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for St. John Paul II, their record now sits at 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. St. John Paul II hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Florida State University High School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. John Paul II came up short against Florida State University High School in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
