Schenectady is 0-10 against Albany since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Schenectady Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Albany Falcons at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Schenectady has struggled recently with 13 losses in a row, while Albany will arrive with seven straight victories.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Schenectady, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-37 loss to Troy. Schenectady has struggled against Troy recently, as their match on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Albany was able to grind out a solid win over South Bronx Prep on Saturday, taking the game 61-54. Given Albany's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while South Bronx Prep is ranked 134th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Albany's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azera Gates, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. Gates also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Iyana Weedon, who scored ten points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Schenectady bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Albany, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Schenectady took a serious blow against Albany when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 69-33. Thankfully for Schenectady, Shonyae Edmonds (who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
