Lyons is a perfect 8-0 against Stagg since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Lions will face off against the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Lyons has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lyons is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Aurora Central Catholic, falling 13-2.
Lyons saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mary Sandman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Ava Jacklin, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Stagg gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Rich Township. Considering the Chargers have won three games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lily Henning made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Janski, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Holly Jirka was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Lyons' loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Stagg, their record now sits at 3-7.
Lyons came out on top in a nail-biter against Stagg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
