Having just played yesterday, the Towanda Black Knights will get right back to it and host the North Penn-Liberty Mountie at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Towanda's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Sullivan County by a score of 43-41. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Towanda has scored all season.
Meanwhile, North Penn-Liberty was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to Northeast Bradford. While losing is never fun, North Penn-Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Northeast Bradford is ranked 233rd).
Despite their loss, North Penn-Liberty saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Adynn Wheeland, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Luke Kreger, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Towanda has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for North Penn-Liberty, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Towanda beat North Penn-Liberty 60-48 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was North Penn-Liberty's Derek Litzelman, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Towanda to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
