Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Manville

While Manville's win against Sussex County Tech wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Sussex County Tech 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Josh D'Ambrosio and Brandon Shimp made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, D'Ambrosio struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Shimp tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Manville is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. At bat, D'Ambrosio went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Shimp got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave D'Ambrosio a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Bobby Petrone, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Manville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sussex County Tech, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manville will head out to take on Montgomery at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sussex County Tech, they will venture away from home to face off against Wallkill Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
