The Cherokee Trail Cougars lost against the Arapahoe Warriors back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Cherokee Trail took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arapahoe. While losing is never fun, Cherokee Trail can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Arapahoe is ranked 34th).
Cherokee Trail's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Steinbrinck and Jordan Mitchell. Steinbrinck scored 14 points, while Mitchell scored nine points along with three steals.
Miles McMonigle was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 11 points along with four steals. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Joel Nichols was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Cherokee Trail has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Arapahoe, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherokee Trail will face off against Mullen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Mullen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Thursday. As for Arapahoe, they will head out on the road to face off against Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Eaglecrest's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
