Jordan-Elbridge hasn't had much luck against Chittenango recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will challenge the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Jordan-Elbridge has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marcellus hit Jordan-Elbridge with a five-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Mustangs, falling 11-1.
Jordan-Elbridge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Jay, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Chittenango waltzed into their match on Saturday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They blew past the Warriors 15-6. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lauren Machan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MacKenna Palko, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Juli. Coon, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Chittenango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in nine consecutive contests.
Chittenango pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jordan-Elbridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chittenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Jordan-Elbridge might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Chittenango when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
