Last Tuesday, Central Heights escaped with a win against Hemphill by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. 52 seems to be a good number for Central Heights as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Pollok Central humbled Newton with a 56-26 victory. Given Pollok Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 461st, while Newton is ranked 1547th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pollok Central can attribute much of their success to Law Shaver, who scored 11 points along with three steals, and Jake Matthews, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Matthews has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Dillan Hatcher was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Central Heights is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-17 record this season. As for Pollok Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 24-8.
Central Heights came up short against Pollok Central in their previous meeting back in January, falling 43-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Matthews, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
