Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Moapa Valley Pirates walked away with it. They took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 62-14 victory over Boulder City. Moapa Valley might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven contests by 30 points or more this season.
Degan Jones was a one-man wrecking crew for Moapa Valley as he picked up 139 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Jones was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 62 yards. Another player making a difference was Talon Schraft, who threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Boulder City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Welbourne, who picked up 156 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Hopkinson, who threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns.
The win (which was Moapa Valley's sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.7 points per game. As for Boulder City, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Moapa Valley will head out on the road to face off against Truckee at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Truckee is on a five-game streak of home wins, Moapa Valley a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Boulder City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
