Even though the Ardrey Kell Knights scored an imposing 69 points on Saturday, the Gaston Day Spartans still came out on top. Gaston Day snuck past Ardrey Kell with a 73-69 win.
Gaston Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deshawn Coulter led the charge by scoring 19 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Griffen Simpson was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with 6 rebounds.
Loss or not, Ardrey Kell got some senior leadership from Caden Caskey who scored 28 points and Delani Hammonds who scored 17 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Caskey scored a full 40.6% of Ardrey Kell's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryceton Thomas, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Gaston Day's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Ardrey Kell, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Gaston Day will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Westminster Catawba Christian at 7:00 p.m. on November 28th. Westminster Catawba Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Gaston Day likes a good challenge. As for Ardrey Kell, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Charlotte Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Charlotte Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
