If the Springdale Prep Lions were riding high off their 69-24 takedown of the St. James Saints last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Springdale Prep took a 57-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. John's Catholic Prep on Wednesday.
Springdale Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anya Neufeld, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Neufeld is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Sellers, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
St. John's Catholic Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nadia Ferguson, who scored 17 points. Ferguson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Cayenne Pigeon was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Springdale Prep's loss dropped their record down to 20-19. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springdale Prep's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Shabach Christian Academy Blue at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Shabach Christian Academy Blue presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springdale Prep in Maryland (Shabach Christian Academy Blue is ranked 33rd, while Springdale Prep is ranked 112th). As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Our Lady of Mount Carmel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Wednesday.
