The Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers suffered their biggest defeat since November 13, 2023 on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 61-32 loss at the hands of Benet Academy. While losing is never fun, Joliet Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Benet Academy is ranked 31st).
Despite the loss, Joliet Catholic had strong showings from Sophia Mihelich, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds, and Symone Holman, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. That was a full 43.8% of Joliet Catholic's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Joliet Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Benet Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Joliet Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Morris at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Benet Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Saint Viator at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Saint Viator is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
