Jackson strolled past Portsmouth West with points to spare, taking the game 59-45. Given Jackson's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Portsmouth West is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jackson was led to victory by Mattie Walburn and T.j. Carpenter. Walburn scored 18 points, while Carpenter scored 24 points along with 5 rebounds. The match was Carpenter's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Carpenter, who scored 8 points along with 4 steals.
The win (which was Jackson's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 18 points. As for Portsmouth West, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Jackson will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Washington at 7:00 p.m. As for Portsmouth West, they will head out on the road to face off against Northwest at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
