It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Williston-Elko Blue Devils ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Blackville-Hilda 71-68. The win was a breath of fresh air for Williston-Elko as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Despite the loss, Blackville-Hilda had strong showings from Jaquel Holman, who scored 27 points along with two steals, and Messiah Mcfadden, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Arkel Thomas, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Williston-Elko now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Blackville-Hilda, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games.
