Lehman Catholic extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-17. They came up short against the Covington Buccaneers, falling 28-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buccaneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-0 back in April.
As for Covington, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Covington, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
For Covington's part, Whitney Burns and Cassidy Iddings were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Burns pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Iddings pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Burns went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Iddings went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Emalyn Johnson and Taylor Foutz did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson fired off four runs, four doubles, and five RBI while going 5-for-6, while Foutz went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five hits gave Foutz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda McClure, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Lehman Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Covington, they will head out on the road to square off against Troy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Buccaneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
