AA Region 8 recap October 22, 2013
Union County moved up to 286 from 332 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AA Region 8. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Greene County 42-0.
Washington-Wilkes extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rabun County, 52-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
The Wildcats' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Wes Holcombe threw for 137 and 1 touchdown and Jordan Oliver had 49 yards receiving. On the ground Hunter Sims contributed 35 yards. Charlie Woerner helped Rabun County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 28 yards.
Rabun County's dynamic duo of Holcombe and Oliver proved tough for Washington-Wilkes to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Woerner helped Rabun County's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 28 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Union County's Joseph Mancuso and Jacob Rogers have proven to be a lethal combination. Mancuso has thrown for 1,622 yards this season, while Rogers has 38 catches for 616 yards. Dan Dailey from Lee Shaw's team leads the league in rushing with 537 yards.
The Wildcats are in third place, while Cullen Robertson's team is in second place.
There should be lots of points scored when Rabun County and the Panthers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wildcats comes in having scored 293 this season, while Union County has scored 215. Rabun County scored 7 points last week as it fell to Robby Robinson's team.
Riverside Military Academy led AA Region 8 in scoring this week by notching 56 points on Social Circle.
