Flowing Wells' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nevaeh Urenda, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards, and Allison Verdugo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 boards. Urenda is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Leila Whitaker was another key player, putting up six points.
Even though they lost, Flowing Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cienega was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 53-47 to Sahuarita. The Bobcats were down 53-31 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Flowing Wells will have to keep a close watch on Alysiana Robles and Amaya Woolford, a pair of players who had a big impact on Cienega's prior game. Robles almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, while Woolford dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Woolford is becoming a predictor of Cienega's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when she doesn't).
Flowing Wells' record is now 12-4. As for Cienega, their record now sits at 8-7.
Everything went Flowing Wells' way against Cienega when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as Flowing Wells made off with a 64-38 victory. Does Flowing Wells have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cienega turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
