Hesperia is 2-8 against Apple Valley since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Hesperia is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Burroughs, falling 18-5.
Marlie Munoz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Mata, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Apple Valley beat Serrano 9-6 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Sun Devils in their matchups with the Diamondbacks: they've now won five in a row.
Brynne Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Brooke Johnson was incredible, firing off three home runs and four RBI while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (three). Another player making a difference was Madison Buzzard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Apple Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Apple Valley pushed their record up to 8-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hesperia, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10-1.
Hesperia might still be hurting after the 20-2 loss they got from Apple Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Scorpions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
