If the Cuero Gobblers were feeling good off their 70-45 takedown of the Fox Tech Buffaloes last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cuero was outmatched by the Bears at home and fell 70-38. While losing is never fun, Cuero can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 986th, while the Bears are ranked 289th).
La Vernia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Zepka, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cole Whatley, who scored 18 points.
Cuero has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for La Vernia, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 28-0.
Cuero will head out on the road to face off against the Rockets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully John F. Kennedy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. As for La Vernia, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the at 7:00 p.m. Young Men's Leadership Academy is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
