After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Edwardsville, the Jersey Panthers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They managed a 64-58 win over Cahokia. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Jersey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hunter Herkert, who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Herkert has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Brunaugh, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds.
Cahokia lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being C'narri Griffin, who scored 13 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Taven Miller, who scored 13 points.
Jersey's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Cahokia, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.
Jersey on the road again on Friday and play against Alton at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Alton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jersey in Illinois (Alton is ranked 82nd, while Jersey is ranked 369th). As for Cahokia, they will square off against Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Jacksonville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
