The Purvis Tornadoes will take on the Oak Forest Academy Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Purvis 3.7, Oak Forest Academy 1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Purvis is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Seminary, who was ranked seventh at the time (Purvis was ranked first). Purvis had just enough and edged out Seminary 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.
Jacob Parker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Parker was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JoJo Parker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Tyce Shepherd was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Oak Forest Academy put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Washington get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Fans of the Yellowjackets have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Kaul Perkins was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Kelsey, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Oak Forest Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Oak Forest Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Purvis, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Purvis hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oak Forest Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Purvis took their win against Oak Forest Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 14-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Purvis since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
