Basketball Recap: El Dorado Comes Up Short

If El Dorado was riding high fresh off their 81-58 takedown of Galt last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The El Dorado Cougars took a 77-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Argonaut Mustangs on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 73-67 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why El Dorado lost, don't look at Logan Baker. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Baker a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ben Beasley, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, El Dorado smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Argonaut's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mitchell Mcmahan, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 19 rebounds. Mcmahan is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 13 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Caspary, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

El Dorado dropped their record down to 10-13 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Argonaut, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

El Dorado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-52 loss against Rosemont on the 29th. Argonaut has also already played their next match, an 85-79 defeat against Union Mine on the 29th.
