Two dominant guards in Ro'Mello Pegues and Ja?Von Motta are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Triton Hawks will square off against the Overhills Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Triton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
Last Tuesday, Triton came up short against Pine Forest and fell 69-61.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jamaury Taylor, who posted 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarbiaz Devane, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Overhills' match on Tuesday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They put the hurt on Harnett Central with a sharp 64-44 win. The Jaguars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
Triton better keep an eye on Deshaun Barton. He was instrumental in Overhills' win, going 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cj Roland, who put up nine points along with six assists and five boards.
Overhills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.
Overhills' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Triton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Triton has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overhills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Triton took a serious blow against Overhills in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 82-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Motta, who went 9 of 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 33 points and three steals. Now that Triton knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
