Monticello Empire League recap October 8, 2013
Wood extended the longest winning streak in Monticello Empire League this week by beating Vallejo, 29-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Armijo scaled the state rankings by moving to 631 from 786 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Indians were able to move up by beating Fairfield 47-20.
Wood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Bailey threw for 81 and 1 touchdown and Damon Lewis had 50 yards receiving. On the ground Lewis contributed 148 yards. Ryan Nules helped Wood's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 43 yards.
Lewis was a passing and rushing force as Carlos Meraz's team beat the Apaches.
Lewis was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 148 yards as the Wildcats defeated Vallejo. Desmond McIver also contributed to the rushing game with 19 yards on the ground.
On the heels of Bailey and Lewis, Wood has had great success on offense. Bailey leads the league in passing with 688 yards, while Lewis has rushed for 632 yards this season. Vacaville's Tanner Donaldson leads the league in receiving yards with 260 on 15 catches.
An important game coming up in Monticello Empire League this week will be when Armijo takes on the Wildcats. At the moment, the Indians are in sixth, while Wood is in first.
Rodriguez fell to Bethel 53-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
